Notable Community Participation

The community of Pedro II, Piauí, including 6 families of low income, will work towards improving quality of life in the region through the technology of 5 vegetable garden structures and an agroecological area that helps a sustainable use of the land and water resources.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project proposes the diffusion of appropriate technologies, where less water and labor force is needed from the families involved, protection and enrichment of the soil, minimizing harmful effects. The families will widen their sustainable knowledge and practices, which will help towards improving income and local profit.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

Project Results

73 people were trained in 2 training courses in agroecology;
Two field days were held out with the participation of 28 people;
39 technical visits were carried out;
2079 m² of shaded agroecological gardens were implemented;
The gardens are generating an average additional income of R$ 860.00 per family/month.
An area of ??5000 m² was fenced for agroecological crops, but only 200 m² were cultivated for health reasons.
17 women and 18 men participated in the project, of which 13 were young and 6 were elderly.
