Lawad Laborie - Effective Management of and Sustainable Livelihoods in Laborie Bay, Saint Lucia
Lawad Laborie - Effective Management of and Sustainable Livelihoods in Laborie Bay, Saint Lucia
Laborie Bay has a diversity of natural tropical coastal assets such as coral reefs and sea grass beds, which are coming under increasing pressure by the growing number of yachts entering the Bay, and from land based sources of pollution and over fishing. The Bay however has been in the past a major source of livelihoods and can remain so in the future if well managed.

This planning project will assist the community of Laborie to undertake research which will lead to the updating of the coral reefs map of the Bay; identify the solar system required for lighting; identification and selection of the most appropriate mooring system; and map the uses of the Bay and the location of the existing mooring anchors. The grant will also enable the community to convene meetings and workshops, undertake public awareness activities as well as draft, review and finalise the Full Grant Project Proposal.
