Combatting Land Degradation in the Village Ozhio through Improved Irrigation.
The project will directly contribute to the attainment of SGP OP5 Immediate Objective 7: Reduce pressures at community level from competing land uses. Correspondingly, it resonates with the national priority - To reduce degraded land areas and improve the soil quality (NEAP 2012-16); In addition, the project corresponds with the SGP OP5 Immediate Objective 6: Maintain or improve flow of agro-ecosystem and forest ecosystem services to sustain livelihoods of local communities. Support community based and ?sustainable agriculture and forest management practices to reduce negative impact of agro and forest ecosystems. The project aims at ameliorating agriculture lands through improved irrigation. This will be achieved via rehabilitation of the irrigation system of the village. More specifically, through this community-based agricultural management initiative, the Ojio village residents will contribute towards the mitigation of land degradation and will improve soil productivity of their croplands.
