The project was completed. The community attended the meeting with great enthusiasm and awareness of the program. The process supported the groups to understand more about the Ujung Kulon National Park Forest preservation and how to reach local benefit from the natural resource. It helped to increase idea on community alternative productions, through local economy activities.
The project has had an impact on local communities by developing a model and a concept of national park management involving the participation of rural community. It also provide enhancement of positive [indigenous] agricultural practices by providing training and education.
This project confirms that communities? role in a national park is a crucial factor in designing national park management from which the local communities also derive benefits. LATIN is seriously looking for constructive criticism and other input to better formulate their conservation management plan for the Ujung Kulon National Park. Among the most frequently suggested ideas from experts (scientific as well as political) include approaching the middle and top levels of management in the local government. Their role is thus bridging the gap between the bottom level officials (i.e. village Heads) and top level officials in Jakarta. By informing and building a good relationship with the middle management level officials, it is hoped that the right information would be efficiently utilized. Such a relationship would also strengthen the bridge between the local government and the NGO involved.

Problems occurred: lack of coordination between National Park management and local community, lack of field facilitators for LATIN program, time limitation to facilitate the local community, limited budget for field program, and lack of field support system to support the program.
