Describe to what extent the objectives of the Agreement were accomplished:

The first objective was to ?Establish a pistachio production area as means for sustainable utilization of pistachio tree and promote community collaboration and generate employment and generate income opportunity for women in Maimana. Establish investment and create market opportunities by collaborating with the Maimana agriculture department and private stakeholders?.
Under this objective we were able:

Conduct Survey in targeted community to trace and identify vulnerable poor and marginalized 18 women, as beneficiaries of this program. We could Women association and women environment network was established. Each woman becomes aware of the importance of greenery, reforestation and climate change impacts. Economic opportunity was provided for these women under this project. Pistachio nurseries were made by the women at their homes.
Collaboration of women with agriculture department and private stake holders were done which helps women to become an effective member in their community for reforestation.
Women were being facilitated with equipment needed for the cultivation, maintenance and take care of pistachio seedlings. We provided them with plastic bags, plastic sheets, seeds, shovels, jerry cans and water sprays.


The second objective was to ?Regenerate the pistachio tree by creating seed nurseries. Create village level industries as a means of promoting small-scale household based harvesting and supplying pistachio and conduct judicious and scheduled pistachio tree as replacement of new trees and systematically use land areas for planting promote sustainable environmental programs and raise awareness of the community about reforestation?.

Under this objective:
The women created seed nurseries at homes50 hectors of undeveloped land was reforesting rated by cultivating the pistachio saplings in those lands. Drip irrigation system was installed in those areas to continue water supply that is necessary for the growth of saplings in to plants. Environment network was established who provide training to other women in their communities and are sharing their knowledge about reforestation, greenery and climate change. Exposure visits of foster mums were arranged The women are voluntarily spreading the awareness amongst people in their respective communities. Women association established by PATH-O has been linked with DAIL women association and they have exposure visits of each other?s activities and find lessons learned from each other?s experiences. Training of women for replication of pistachio Seed were conducted for 8 months.5434 pistachio saplings were handed over to NCA and the women were paid per sapling which was again an economic opportunity for the vulnerable women

Describe the immediate benefits received by the participants and/or the recipient communities:
Women who had no knowledge of greenery, reforestation or global warming get the idea and understanding of these issues. They also come to know the value of reforestation and the prons and cons of global warming.

The women, who were selected as beneficiaries were vulnerable, mostly widowed. Through this project they get economic support which according to them was a great help. They had learnt that they can easily earn something at home by learning new opportunities.

Pistachio cultivation was a new concept to them; they have learnt the pistachio cultivation and caretaking. According to them it was a new experience and it was a whole learning session for them.

Establishment of women network was done, women come to coordinate with each other and they meet each other regularly. They share their ideas and they are now familiar with government officials and they can be an effective member in their community for reforestation.

A great number of broken families of vulnerable, poor and marginalized women are living under zero percent economic condition, but they are being sustained through project income.

Indoor pistachio seedling production nursery management was introduced for poor and marginalized women as well as poorest women families in the inception stage of this project in appropriate communities of Faryab province (Maimana City). It involves widows based in vulnerable communities and support movement.

Women are empowered to replicate, reprocess, and sustain livelihood in their respective regions.

28 women are involved in economic activities and community development activities.

Community members are aware of environmental conservation requires large-scale plantation of trees in desolate areas in order to enhance greenery as well as dry fruit production and produce moisture and address drought


Describe long term benefits:

This project was a potential for significant increase in the production of most valuable and economically important edible nut of pistachio saplings.

50 hectors of undeveloped land was reforestation and pistachio saplings were cultivated in those areas.

The area in which the saplings were cultivated, system of watering for them was also installed. This will help the saplings to become pistachio plants and we could get the valuable products within years.
