Coastal Conservation Education: Protecting Barbados’ Coral Reef
Coral reefs are important to the Barbados fishing industry which partially relies on reef fish. Unfortunately coral reefs continue to be under threat from marine pollution, unsustainable fishing practices and the introduction of alien/invasive species. This project takes a capacity-building approach to sensitise youth in Barbados on the importance of reefs through the use of educational materials such as publications and game apps. Key stakeholders include teachers, parents and the Coastal Zone Management Unit (CZMU).
