Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
30 females are trained on Ole leaf inscription.14 women are trained on ole leaf based handicrafts. Now the group is involved in handicraft making as a livelihood
Project sustainability
? The handicraft making women are grouped and formed a society to work as a small enterprise. They have been recognized and registered under Local Government authority.
? The group is also registered under National Handicraft Centre (Jathika Silpasaba) established under Ministry of Small Enterprises. As a result they get once in every three month an opportunity to participate in trade fairs. The project has trained 1170 youth and monks on Ole-leaf manuscript preparation and writing. Since they are attached to various temples and organizations the knowledge they gained will use to continue Ola-leaf based work (conservation and dissemination of traditional knowledge)
? Further Rangiri Jointly started a sales center/ learning center along with other SGP Grantee organization Arunalu to promote sales
? The plants needed to extract raw material for this industry are maintained at the Rangiti temple.
