Strengthening capabilities, developing sustainable fisheries and reducing greenhouse gas emissions for the fishing fleet in Ninh Thuan using LED lights instead of traditional light sources
Vietnam has great potential for marine economic development, fisheries logistics serving for offshore fishing with the long coastal line stretching the country. In reality, most of the boats for offshore fishing use traditional lights/lamps such as incandescent lamps, halogen, fluorescent, compact, etc?which consume a huge amount of energy, increase the cost burden for fishermen, environment's pollution resulted from leaked diesel oil usage. Therefore piloting and replacing traditional lights with LED (Light Emitting Diode) is proposed. The planning grant is preparation step for developing full project proposal with supplementing enough sufficient data and information regarding LED project through conducting assessment and workshop to share ideas to get agreement. Detail activities include (i) assessment on the current situation of offshore fishing using traditional lights. Criteria measured containsenergy consumed, machine oil, illumination power, longevity (ii) a workshop is organized with participation of fishermen and, local fishing associations to get viewpoints about the project's objective (iii) a workshop to introduce the advatages of LED in comparison with traditional lights (iv) data and information, viewpoints collected from assessment and workshops are for developing full project proposal.
