Living from the land: an environmental and economic development project
Project goals or objective (including GEF problem area addressed by project) :
1. To increase local farmers? economic welfare by implementing environmentally sound and sustainable integrated and innovative farming techniques.
2. To create an agricultural marketing co-operative in the selected villages.
3. To establish YTM into a self-supporting and sustainable organization with the initial assistance from donor agencies which support activities that will yield profits for the local communities and the organization.
Activities to be carried out under project :
1. Participatory Research Activity (PRA) in designing and implementing the appropriate and most suitable activities for their area.
2. Study visit to other project areas within the programme, as a means to exchange experience and knowledge.
3. Extension work through village group leaders (community organisers) and the implementation of various projects: agroforestry, holistic land preparation, livestock intensification, cash-crops, dry-season activities and marketing in 18 villages in T.T.U. over a two year period.
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries :
1. Y.T.M. staff : 4 (four) people.
2. Eighteen farmer groups totaling approximately three hundred and fifty people in 18 (eighteen) villages in Timor Tengah Utara Regency.
