Capacity - Building Component
32 members from 3 villages are trained on RPA tools, and social mobilization. They used their knowledge to identify needs and mobilization of the village community.The same team is trained on the soil conservation and land management at the 30 members from the community are trained on land management practices.Selected village members will be trained on goat rearing, dairy farming, bee keeping, poultry, home gardening and small businesses
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Conducted awareness programme on National and global environmental issues to the community and relevant government staff .Village school is given facilities to maintain a healthy environment .Project is planned to celebrate World Environment day with Local school children at their school premises

Project has empowered the community to self sustain in agriculture (local seed banks, organic fertilizer and pesticides, traditional paddy cultivation) and livelihoods (value added food products and aurvedic medicinal products etc).

Project Results
? Narangala Forest catchment area has been declared as a community forest Reserve in November 2016.
? Illegal timber extraction from the forest and deliberate fires have been minimized through community empowerment, establishing forest fire belts etc
? 78 acres of degraded land managed to minimise soil erosion and established home gardens
? A community center and a project office with accommodation facilities Is established and used for many village meetings, medical clinics and residence for research groups
? The erosion in stream banks are minimise by planting bamboos along the stream banks
? Food security ensured through sustainable home gardens, establishing seed banks and introducing organic farming and climate resilient crop varieties. Average monthly household income of the community increased from LKR 20,820 (USD 141.00) to LKR 27,020 (USD184) by selling value added food products and aurvedic medicinal products, dairy farming and pepper farming
? The outcomes of the various land management techniques adopted to curtail soil erosion could not be quantified due to lack of rain and dry whether pattern prevailing in the project area for more than eight months in 2015/16 period.
