Holistic planned grazing for sustainable land and natural resources management
Naibunga Conservancy is seeking to increase the coverage by scaling up the program already in plae so as to cover the other five group ranches in the local area while also strengthening the program within the existing four group ranches.
Key outcomes of this program are improved community awareness of holistic management techniques, reduced environmental degradation, improved local ownership, improved relations and cooperation, improved income of pastoralists and more productive rangeland.
To create awareness on sustainable rangeland management practices
To enhance community participation, involvement governance and decision making natural resource management
To create and restore adequate pasture for both wildlife and livestock through enhancing land use plans and zonation that will promote multiple of the available land and increase the carrying capacity of the land
Enhancing good relationships between group ranches and private ranchers on pasture management.

Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
Naibunga has ensured that amongst the grazing committees and holistic practice management women have a stake. The group ranch set limits the participation of women members as few women are registered as group ranch members. The Naibunga management has also ensured that women participate in decision making by ensuring that their leadership capacity is enhanced and that they also participate in natural resource management activities within the group ranches.
Notable Community Participation
The Naibunga Conservancy management structure is based and conceptualised from the group ranches leadership. Every group ranch conducts its annual general meeting to elect their group ranch committee who in turn elect trustees who lead Naibunga trust. The decision making process and authority still remains with the community. The community elects a management board to run the conservancy on behalf of the community and the board engaged a conservancy manager to implement the decision of the board. To enhance and sustain community support, the conservancy conducts conservation education to the community through quarterly board and community meetings. The meetings are conducted in group ranch(es) zones of the community and in the meetings the community are informed the progress of the conservancy, key achievement, major challenges and importance, benefit, objectives and goals of conservation. The community then set the conservation goal of the conservancy by making key informed decision. Other than that the community members also provide support through providing labour, financial and in kind.
