Continual improvement, upgradation and transferring of sustainable and effective management models of sloping midland region through the sustainable use of land, water and biodiversity.
This project is designed and developed based on successful results of models in Cam Tam CBA project (CBA/VN/SPA/08/003) and with objectives: to continue raising awareness, strengthening capacity for communities, local governments and stakeholders (particularly schools) of project targeted communes on threats from disaster/extreme weather, environmental issues in local sustainable development; to scale up effective models such as water havesting and storage, flash flood minimization and restructure of plant composition on sloping areas thanks to raining in the Cam Tam CBA project in order to contribute to strengthen capacity on sustainable management and exploitation of land, water and biodiversity resources for communities in sloping areas of Cam Thuy district. The project targets to:
(i) Scaling up the water havesting and storage model: The project supporting the water havesting and storage model for hilly and mountainous areas where they frequently suffer drought (collection and storage of water from rocky sites) and for riparian areas frequently suffering waterlogging by floods (collection and storage of rain water).
(ii) Scaling up the flashflood minimization model: including (a) establishment of contour canal system combined with afforestation in Cam Tam and Cam Chau communes and (b) Renew culvert under C?c dam (C?m Tâm commune) to regulate flood currents in combination with dredging Coc lake to store water for aquaculture, contributing to promote effeciency of the contour canal system and restructure of plant composition in Cam Tam CBA project
(iii) Improving likelihood through cow breeding and freshwater fish rearing: This model is proposed based on traditional VAC model that has been improved by cleaner production mechanism, combined between cultivation and livestock farming: use of weed, leaves of maize, sweet potatos and cassava or other vegetables to feed livestock and hence reduce industrial foods; on the other hand, use of cattle manure combined with cultivation wastes and by-products to produce micro-organic fertilizer for cultivation, therefore reduce environmental pollution on one hand and minimize green house gas emission in agricultural production on the other hand.
