Cultivating Hope with a Processing Facility for Manioc, Protecting Water Resources in the Community Along With Agroforestry Activities.

The project stimulates production, processing and marketing of products from the community through the facility for processing manioc. Main water resources and springs will be enclosed encouraging water conservation, a campaign for planting agroforestry manioc gardens surrounding the rural school and a workshop for environmental education and food education in the school´s community.

Capacity - Building Component

Seminars on agricultural production will be conducted with families from the community; workshops on administrative tools for social projects; capacity building activities on revocovery of degraded areas and agroforetry techniques and production; workshops on food quality and food distribution in local schools.

Notable Community Participation

The project will be developed in Povoado Bonito River situated 60 Km from Cavalcante, northeastern Goiás. 20 families will be directly involved (about 25% of families from the community). The community will benefit from improved quality of food and distribution in local schools. School for 35 children in the village who attend the local school.

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

The project´s goal is to encourage collective income generation in the Rio community encouraging agroforestry production along with planting and manioc processing in order to recover degraded areas around springs and other fundamental water sources.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

9 families participated in training actions in agroecology;
Implanted experimental agroforestry orchard in the school in an area of ??120sqm;
Work of the flour mill in the process of completion.
