The project will involve 60 women who work directly with the processing of babaçu coconut, extracting the interior nut, production of oils and fuel. In each of the 5 communities invoved in the activities there exists a group of women responsible for collecting the coconut in family regimes who then send the nuts to be processed and commercialized. This includes the rural communities of Jiquira, Coroatá, Palmeiral and Lagoinha II in the municipality of Esperantinópolis and the community Serra do Aristóteles in Poção de Pedras, Maranhão.

These activities serve as an example for the entire local population which sees results in the production and information dissemination among the local communities.

This project hopes to show the smallholders that it is indeed possible and feassible to achieve quality of life in their small stretch of land by diversifying the production, reducing consumption of industrialized products, and improving health and food security for the families. Impacts on the environment are therefore minimized and awareness about the importance of the Cerrado's potential assists in insuring the preservation of the biome.
