North Bank Green Initiative Project
The aim of this project is to restore the lost forest cover of the North Bank Region and improve the livelihoods of the communities in the project areas. The North Bank Region borders the fringes of the Sahel and is a region prone to deforestation and land degradation. It is the most deforested region of the country and has the lowest number of trees per land area.
The project targets land users (farmers) and youth groups in the area and will enhance their capacity through field activities involving tree planting on the farmlands, open degraded landscapes and by running training programmes on environmental management and sustainable livelihoods.
Project activities include the establishment of a central tree nursery at the grantee's head office in Kerewan capable of raising and supplying the required seedlings to the target beneficiary communities. Two (2) woodlots will be established in 2 villages and youth trained on woodlot management and bee keeping as a source of income.
