“Community Initiative on combating land degradation in the North Bank Region”.
“Community Initiative on combating land degradation in the North Bank Region”.
This project offers a holistic and sustainable agro-ecological approach to addressing food insecurity, poverty and environmental degradation. In these impoverished areas, incomes are below the national average and more than half of the people suffer from climate change effects. North Bank Region has long been experiencing ecological decline from unsustainable farming practices and over-exploitation of forest resources resulting in a high rate of deforestation and its associated negative effects, which is manifested in the form of shortage of some basic necessities such as fuel wood and building materials. More alarming is the continuous decline in crop yields attributed to severe, continuing soil degradation.
