Increasing Community Welfare Using Renewable Energy Application in Pitung Penanian and Karre Limbong villages, Tana Toraja district, South Sulawesi
Project development Goal :
To provide environmentally friendly energy for local community

Project Objectives :
1. To reduce the uses of conventional energy so that emission could be reduced
2. To empower the community in order to be able to manage microhydro facility in sustainable way
3. To train local community to be a reliable microhydro operator
4. To make use the natural resources available by building a microhydro facility
5. To reduce local community dependency on conventional energy
6. To increase community welfare through economic activity which supported by microhydro facility
7. To disseminate project information to community in other villages in order to enhance
replicability

Expected Outputs :
1. Reduced the uses of conventional energy so that carbon emission could be reduced
2. Ability of local community in managing the microhydro facility in sustainable way
3. Availability of well educated and reliable microhydro operator
4. Emergence of community awareness on the importance of maintaining and protecting the forest resources
5. Increased community's income (especially those involve actively in the project - 100 families)
6. Emergence of awareness of community in the other villages on their water resources potential

Activities to be conducted :
In order to accomplish objective 1 : "To reduce the uses of conventional energy so that emission could be reduced", the activities to be conducted :
1. Visit Pitung Penanian and Karre Limbong villages and study the nature resource potentials
2. Village meetings
3. Re do field survey previously done by PT HEXA
4. Designing microhydro installation
5. Build the facility
6. Monitoring and Evaluation (with PT HEXA)
7. Electricity installation
8. Training for facility operator and project manager
9. Project evaluation with PT HEXA and GEF/SGP
10. Report compilation for GEF/SGP

In order to accomplish objective 2 : "To empower the community in order to be able to manage microhydro facility in sustainable way", the activities to be conducted :
1. Develop training material especially for book keeping
2. Training for microhydro management
3. Try out the implementation of microhydro facility - with GEF/SGP

In order to accomplish objective 3 : " To train local community to be a reliable microhydro operator ", the activities to be conducted :
1. Prepare a modest and simple training module for operator
2. Conduct training (by PT HEXA)
3. Operator supervision (by PT HEXA)


In order to accomplish objective 4 :"To make use the natural resources available by building a microhydro facility", the activities to be conducted :
1. Prepare meeting materials
2. Prepare resource persons / speakers for the meetings
3. Identify the potential participants for the meeting (stakeholders)
4. Conduct the meeting
5. Produce report

In order to accomplish objective 6 : " To increase community welfare through economic activity which supported by microhydro facility", the activities to be conducted :
1. Collect data on the consumed conventional energy by the local community
2. Collect data on local community monthly income
3. Calculate simple economic value for household activities using electricity produced
4. Assist local community to increase their income
5. With GEF/SGP - calculate the reduced carbon

In order to accomplish objective 7 : "To disseminate project information to community in other villages in order to enhance replicability", the activities to be conducted :
1. Prepare presentation materials
2. Select speakers
3. Identify participants
4. Disseminate invitation
5. Conduct meeting
6. Report compilation
