Biodiversity and Climate Change Education Center (Bioclimate Education Center) Project
This project is concerned with the trend of biodiversity loss, and the ability of human population, fragile wildlife and their habitats to become resilient or adapt to the influences of the changing climate. It is also a response to address forest and wetland degradation problems along the mouth strip of Kiang West Peninsular, which encompassed the Bioclimate Education Center and the lower part of Bintang bolon estuary and serves as migratory cross border corridor for wildlife. The scale of poverty within this area influences significant pressure on biodiversity coupled with inevitable and unprecedented utilization of forest products contributed to widespread deforestation, land degradation and disasters, threatening the fragile fauna and flora. The project intends to establish among other things a Bioclimate Education Center, which is a combination of a Wildlife Sanctuary (including Snake Farm and Bee Farm), Auditorium, Library, Research Station, Museum and a Traditional Village for housing. The Center will facilitate outreach activities such as public awareness programme to help nurture peace building and Biodiversity Scouting. It is an opportunity for hosting national and international academic conferences, local workshops and facilitate local training programme in relation to biodiversity, peace building, land degradation and climate change. The project will endeavor to promote unity and networking among affected villages and Bioscout groups to ensure building greater understanding, cooperation and participation in the management, conservation and restoration of proposed Julafar Conservation Complex (JCC), and contribute to promoting food security and environmental sustainability in The country.
