- The project was implemented in 3 communities of Karantaba, Darsilameh and Barianding in Jokadou District of the North Bank Region. All 3 communities are affected by salt water intrusion into lowland riverine areas leading to high destruction of mangroves. The mangroves play an important role in sustaining the livelihoods of all 3 communities.

- Community sensitization meetings were conducted in all 3 communities and community-based mangrove management committees were formed with a total membership of 45 persons. In addition, 6 AFES volunteers and 6 community leaders would support the work of the committee. The role of the committees were to identify, manage and solve issues related to the project and to ensure the provision of long-term technical assistance to the communities in the areas of mangrove management.

- To learn from best practices in mangrove restoration, an exchange visit was organized for 30 members of the association to Nuimi National Park where useful experiences were exchanged in the areas of site identification, seedling selection, nursery management, planting techniques and monitoring and evaluation. The exchange served both as an inspiration and guide to the association's planned interventions in its project areas.

- A total of 1, 513 community members which included community leaders, women and youth groups, school children were sensitized on the importance of mangroves and the need for their protection and sustainable use so as to raise awareness of the important role of mangrove on the environment and livelihoods.

- 46, 520 mangrove propagules were collected and planted in an area of 7.2 hectares of the wetland/estuary areas in the 3 communities and 1, 603 persons participated in the exercise.
