Development of an integrated programme on environmental management and advocacy through community participation
Project goals or objective (including GEF problem area addressed by project) :
Long term objectives :
1. To enhance the local farmers skills in managing their land with a minimum use of chemical agents in their fields.
2. To provide a model training programme for other interested NGOs.

Short term objectives :
1. To reduce farmers? dependency on chemical agents for their crops.
2. To reduce farmers? expenses in maintaining their crops and land.
3. To return the equilibrium of biodiversity through natural means.
4. To increase farmers? income by reducing field maintenance costs and improving improving the quality of their crops.

Activities to be carried out under project :
1. Workshops and training courses : participated by local farmers, local NGOs, and other interested parties.
2. Close encounter guidance : on site instructors in each village for the duration of the project, enhanced by regular group meetings for the farmers.

Project Participants and/or beneficiaries :
1. PAN-NS and local NGO staff.
2. Farmers from 3 villages in Deli Serdang and Langkat Regency.
3. Visiting farmers from North and South Sumatra (around 100 persons).
