Enhancing the Capacities of farm families in Tsito traditional Area in Climate Smart Agriculture within the Weto COMDEKS landscape
The main environmental challenges confronting the landscape could be summarised as:
? Unsustainable farming practices
? Increasing habitat destruction (biodiversity loss and reduced ecosystem services)
? Inadequate livelihood support systems
? Weak institutional capacity (to support conservation and production)
PROJECT GOAL
The overall goal of this project is to promote sustainable management and utilization of natural resources for increased production, the restoration of biodiversity, wealth creation and continuous flow of ecosystem services using organic fertilizer as the basis.
Project Purpose:
This project intends to develop and sustain livelihood and wellbeing of the local communities, towards the adoption of conserved natural and semi-natural habitats and ecosystem services to reduce poverty and poverty-induced resources mismanagement.
Project Objectives
The main project objectives are to:
1. To promote the conservation of natural and semi?natural habitats and ecosystem services within Weto landscape are conserved
2. To promote sustainable organic agricultural practices implemented across the landscape to enhance and revive traditional conservation and production practices and adoption of new technologies.
3. To develop livelihood and wellbeing of target social groups within Weto Landscape sustained and enhanced through the development of livelihood enterprises in line with local tradition and culture.
4. To strengthened the institutional capacity at the landscape level to realize the goal of integrating conservation and production in the management of Weto Landscape
FIRST QUARTER REPORT
i. 3 Community entry and 3 fora was successful in three communities namely;Awakpe, Tsanodome and Awate with a total number of 120 participants of which 71 are women and 49 were men respectively.
ii. 100 Fire volunteers( 58 men and 42 women) have been trained from three communities namely,Tsanodza, Tsananyigbe and Zorgbeon fire management which has given them the needed knowledge and skills in fire management.
iii. 100ha of fire belt has been constructed by 90 fire volunteers (32 were female and 58 men) from five communities.
