Conservation education for teachers and students: a basic environmetal learning experience
Project goals or objective (including GEF problem area addressed by project) :
1. Providing a model for local high schools? extracurricular activities on ?Nature Outdoor Activities with Specific Focus on Tropical Rain Forest Ecosystem? in Bogor and the surrounding areas.
2. Providing sufficient training for the selected local high school teachers to continue the ?Learning from Nature? in the future.
3. Encouraging students (senior as well as junior high schools?) to start their own ?Outdoor clubs? in their schools, under the guidance of their trained teachers.
Activities to be carried out under project :
1. Trainers? presentation at prospective and selected schools, to be attended by teachers and students of those schools.
2. Nature trek: taking students and teachers to selected treks in Bogor and its surrounding areas.
3. Training and education in the field : implementing the ?learning while playing? education modules for all participants.
4. Providing ?small groups? mentoring system in the field : groups of 3 students are mentored or tutored on environmental concerns issues that needs to be conveyed to our future leaders (i.e. these young students) in a manner easily understood by them.
5. Periodic evaluation, not only on the programme but more importantly on the participants themselves, to reveal whether or not the method implemented had any significant positive impact on the participants.
Project Participants and/or beneficiaries :
1. KIH volunteers.
2. Selected school teachers (approximately 50 over 2 years period).
3. Selected students (mostly senior high schools?, but also a handful of junior high school as well as elementary schools).
4. A small number of interested parents.
