Project Characteristics and Results

Gender Focus

Both women and men were equally involved in project, in positions of experts, trainers, consultaints, designers and participants of the events.

Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples

Community meeting on distribution of the project experience were organized in Tamchy village (north beach) and Tosor village in the south beach of the Issyk-Kul lake.

Capacity - Building Component

Consultations of the biologist, engineers, electrician and other specialists were provided for the grantee during the project. Strong support was given from the side of the SGP TAG members.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

Exhibition about algae of Issyk-Kul and biodiversity of the ecosystem of the lake as a whole, was created in the museum of Balykchy.

Replication of project activities

Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods

Production of the spirulina algae in big volumes will allow getting enough income for maintanance of the purchased equipment and greenhouse.

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

The project created special web.site, where grantee summarised the experience on groing spirulina in Kyrgyzstan and description of products, made from this algae. Project news were published in www.photo.kg and www.time.kg

Project sustainability

The project is sustainable, as production of the spirulina algae in big volumes will allow getting enough income for maintanance of the purchased equipment and greenhouse.

Policy Impact

The project produced policy impact, as greenhouse in Tamchy became the first farm on groing algae in Kyrgyzstan. As spirulina is very healthy (both for animals and people), there is huge potential of project development, based on farmers' needs, and in prospect - medicine and general public.

Young scientists and engineers were involved into project at the stage of construction of the bio-reactor and greenhouse for growing algae (spirulina).

Project Results

1. The Project Management Committee is created. The meeting on informing residents of the Tamchy village on the project is organized.
2. The bench exhibition about seaweed of Issyk-Kul and the project on the basis of museum of local lore in Balykchy and the Museum of water in Bishkek were created.
3. The culture of seaweed from the Czech Republic is acquired and transportation of a strain (inokulyariya) to Kyrgyzstan is organized.
4. The equipment for laboratory on servicing of the bioplatform is purchased and the personnel of PF "Dialogue of Cultures - One World" are trained in skills of its use.
5. On the basis of the yurt Camp in Tosor village of Issyk-Kul region detailed planning of the launch of the bio platform for cultivation of a spirulina in the area is carried out, the necessary drawings, cost estimates and specifications of equipment and materials are prepared.
6. The trunk water supply system (from 70 to 100 m) from a thermal slit to a project implementation section is laid out.
1. The greenhouse for installation of the phytobioreactor for cultivation of seaweed is built.
2. The phytobioreactor for cultivation of an alga on the basis of plastic basins is constructed.
3. The equipment for release of biomass of an alga from nutritious solution is acquired.
4. The presentation of results of experience for local community is organized. Households for carrying out model experiment on use of a spirulina in the village Tamchy were chosen. Market research on sale of a spirulina to residents of the village Tamchy, and also other villages of the Issyk-Kul region is conducted.
5. Results of the project are covered in mass media. The web page about the project is created.
