Community waste management actions plans, including small-scale low-cost investment portfolio (small grant project ideas) will serve to improve health, environmental and economic conditions of local population.
Mostly, the project will focus on household solid wastes, being a major concern for local communities. This issue is linked with degradation of agricultural lands as well as with the pollution of the Alazani River, one of the trans-boundary tributaries of the Kura-Aras River Basin, used for drinking and irrigation water supply. Thus, the empowerment and awareness rising of local communities on the environmental impacts of household waste dumping will contribute to the enhanced local knowledge on global environmental issues addressed by GEF. Moreover, basic waste management trainings of communities and youth will also include modules/aspects of the management of chemicals of global concern, e.g. PoPs with a focus on PoPs-pesticides and dioxins and furans
