Employment is one of the most crucial problems affecting labour. For women to be more actively involved in economics, politics and the social life in general, their rate of employment should be increased. Women receive different perceptions in and out of the family, in other words in every part of the society. Therefore their employment matters since it affects their children, family and the rest of the society. Economic independence both improves self esteem and relieves the psychologic and economic pressure arising from her dependancy to their husbands or fathers. Employment mostly affects the woman; as her contribution to herself and her family will increase. Additional income will also bring a say on her own labours and earnings, further improving their weight on decisions both personally and socially. This project aims to elevate the economic capacities and encourage entrepreneurship of the small-scale fisherwomen in the Datça-Bozburun Special Environmental Protection Area by proposing alternative incomes to help support the continuity of small scale fisheries which is often overlooked in Turkey. The project will primarily help realize the ?decrease poverty, sustainable development and human and institutional strengthening? initiative of SGP by supporting artisanal fisheries through creating alternative sources of income, building an organization model specific for fisherwomen; and secondarily contribute to the initiative of sustainable fisheries supporting biodiversity.
