United We Stand, Divided We Fall in Datça and Bozburun
United We Stand, Divided We Fall in Datça and Bozburun
The Comdeks evaluation project carried out in 2014 in Datça showed that the civil stakeholders within the region have low participation in decision-making of the peninsula and a healthy communication and cooperation platform between these stakeholders were not revealed yet. This is more visible in the south of the Bozburun Peninsula region. Civil stakeholders in the area are not knowledgeable about nature conservation legislation and theoretical background on the relationship between the traditional landuse and biodiversity, thus they have a limited participation in processes and decision-making about the peninsula.

Seferihisar Do?a Okulu has developed a comprehensive assessment of social networking and capacity building programs in order to solve this problem in the light after realizing a field research in the area in 2014. In Datça and Bozburun Peninsulas, ?United We Stand, Divided We Fall in Datça and Bozburun? project has been prepared aiming sustainability of the traditional production systems in the area. Within the project, a two-stage training program will be realized to enhance the nature protection and traditional land use capacity of civilian stakeholders in Datça and Bozburun Peninsulas. A detailed pre-training content and visual educational materials will be created. The first phase of training is planned to create a common language between the stakeholders in rural areas, and the later settled population. In the second stage, a detailed course will be held on topics of strategic planning and the segmentation of local products in Datça-Bozburun Peninsula and the people who work on these issues in other parts of Anatolia will also be invited to contribute and share knowledge and experience. Four main activities will be realized to strengthen the communication network between stakeholders and the participation of civil stakeholders in decision-making. A network that will connect key local stakeholders strategically, as well as on case by case issues will be established. This network will have horizontal structure and will enhance sharing of information and collective action in the peninsula. A round trip in the peninsula will be carried out and the team will join in rural events to strengthen the network.
