Introduction of cool season greenhouses in Mongolia
Introduction of cool season greenhouses in Mongolia
The ?Positive Connection? NGO has suggested to introduce greenhouses that can be used over cool seasons in Mongolia and got approval from the NSC. As everybody knows the currently used greenhouses imported from Korea and China do not fit with local climatic conditions. Strong winds, high fluctations in seasonal temperatures and extreme weather events much shorten the lives of these greenhouses and sometimes these greenhouse are used only 2-3 years. This situation greatly discourages rural communities and ultimately results in country's agricultural production output. The NGO suggested greenhouses will greatly extend the usage of greenhouses over cool months of year, if not over December to February period. By using these greenhouses one can double the cultivaing season or may save one full year. It will become possible to start the planting from March and finish at the begining of November. This is just one advantage. Once these greenhouses are built with sand bags, they will be very cheap and energy efficient ones.
