Remediation of solid domestic waste dumps to prevent soil and water pollutions in the Eastern region of Ukraine
The project aims to prevent soil and water pollution in the Eastern region of Ukraine by solving the problem of unorganized landfills of solid domestic waste. Such landfills are dangerous in terms of potential chemical pollution of soil and groundwater in Luhansk region. The project prevents soil and water pollution and land degradation in the area of 7 hectares. This is reached by completing the following stages: - conducting a study to identify location of the largest unorganized landfills in Lysychansk town; - development of a working plan to remediate the landfills of solid waste; - completion of work to remediate the landfills; - production and dissemination of information materials among local residents; - conducting public activities and enhancement of public awareness.
