Rehabilitation of forests affected by the armed conflict in Lugansk region
Military actions in the Eastern region of Ukraine led to damage and destruction of a huge forest array, which may cause dangerous water and wind erosion of land. The objective of the project is to combat negative environmental consequences in the region through renovation of forests and agroforestry activities, and to establish the basis for environmentally sustainable management of forests. The project is implemented in Novoaidar district damaged by combat actions. To achieve project objectives pine trees are planted on the area of 40 hectares to protect lands of Lugansk region from wind and water degradation, improve general well-being of local residents, raise their awareness in forest management and involve them in renovation of the affected regions.
