Restoration and Development of Eden Brown Estate
The Eden Brown Estate is an area of historic, cultural and environmental significance to the communities of Butlers and Eden Brown in Nevis. It was a former sugar and then cotton plantation and was then later planted with hundreds of coconut palms that supported the environment in terms of helping with the prevention of soil erosion, biodiversity conservation and food and livelihood security. With the introduction of Lethal Yellowing and Budrot disease in Nevis during the mid 90?s, every single coconut palm was lost and the rate of soil erosion in the area has accelerated with time.
The Butlers Community Development Club wishes to address two issues of environmental significance within the Eden Brown Estate, along with the development of livelihood activities: loss of biodiversity and land degradation.
