Supporting women, youth and disabled subsistence farmers in the Eastern Cape Province to adapt to and mitigate against land degradation and promote sustainable forest management
The proposed project?s primary objective is to enhance the adaptation of farming methods and soil management (including related water management) to climate change condition through restorative and preventative measures that combat land degradation (e.g. limit overgrazing, land over utilisation, vegetation burning, overuse of fertiliser) and promote sustainable forest management e.g. planting trees, reducing fossil fuel (empower women farmers to construct stoves that need far less wood) in the already vulnerable rural community of Upper and Lower Mcwasa. The proposed project also aims at linking climate change adaptation to how vulnerable farming communities manage their resource, prevent disasters that have a bearing on their livelihood and safety; and how they generally make choices that have a short to long-term benefit on their livelihood vis a vis their ecosystems.
