Project Characteristics and Results

Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment

A communique expressing the concerns and the outcome of the consultation will be shared with the Prime Minister and Ministry of Environment.

Gender Focus

Both male and female representatives will be given the opportunity to attend the session and be given equal opportunities to provide input.

Policy Impact

It will be an initial intervention to allow civil society inputs to feed into the government's position going to Paris 2015. It will also build capacity of the Major Groups form in 2014.

The Outcome Document provides national civil society inputs into UNFCCC's COP negotiations and civil society call for national action.

Inovative Financial Mechanisms

The knowledge products include the communique, the outcome document and the full workshop report. These will be shared with CSOs and officials of the Ministry of Environment. The documents are available on SGP Barbados' local website.

Youth organisations will be engaged and provide input.

Project Results

The National CSO Consultation on Climate Change was hosted leading up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) Conference of Parties (COP21) in Paris. The consultation brought together over 18 representatives from civil society organisations, including SGP grantees, to broaden their knowledge on climate change and to facilitate consensus on a strong civil society national position for COP21.

It was agreed that a communique expressing the concerns and the Outcome Document for the consultation would be shared with the Ministry of Environment and Drainage. The 2014 commitment to create CSO Major Groups will ensure that the voices of all national stakeholders remain on the global agenda for sustainable development.
