Main problems: 1) Mangrove forest being encroached by a massive tourism and real estate business 2) Lack of knowledge and awareness in climate change impact

The project aims to 1) restore and increase mangrove forest, 2) build the model on renewable energy community management for promoting alternative energy source and 3) engage and empower women and youth network for climate action

Target area: covering 6 villages of Bang Rong, Ao Kung, Bang La, Para, Ao Por, and Pa Klock in Pa Klock sub-district, Ta Lhang district, Phuket province. The total beneficiaries are 600 families.

Main activities:
1) Launching community capacity building including women and youth network empowerment through study tours, workshop, community dialogue, a youth camp
2. Demonstrating biogas by food waste and showcasing as a learning model in community
3. Practicing waste management in school/ household/ flea market
4. Building a seedling nursery and planting in mangrove forest
5. Launching dissemination of project results and participatory evaluation

Expected outcomes:
1. The 192-ha mangrove forest is protected from land encroachment. This mangrove ecosystem is healthier with at least 12,000 seedling plantation.
2. Emergence of tangible model of waste management and waste recycling in community by launching food waste-based biogas application and setting 40 recycling bins
3. Climate change awareness and climate action is mainstreamed towards community members. Half of 30 leader members are women. They understand climate change impact and problem relation from community level to global level. There are at least 20 students leading the movement. There are 1,000 communities alliance participating in community actions. There are community action plan and co-action plan with municipality for driving society movement and awareness in tacking climate issues continuously.
