Improving Watershed Management Through Conservation & Reforestation/Afforestation Initiative
Based and operated from Simbu Province, UNG have previously successfully implemented an SGP project and have now been approved a planning grant to implement a project titled ?Improving Watershed Management through Conservation & Reforestation/Afforestation Initiative? to be implemented in Wara Mai (Chuave /EHP), Koronigle creek, Tine Creek & Waghi River (Kerowagi) and Wara Simbu (Sinasina-Yongomugl & Kundiawa-Gembogl Districts) with total population to be confirmed. The CBO is awarded a planning grant of US$4,000.00 to prepare a full proposal. This initiative is an extension of their previous reforestation project but with a focus now on improving and developing management of selected river systems extending beyond Nauro Gor village. The project will seek to educate locals on preventing and minimizing degradation of environment along riverbanks and within its vicinity of riverbanks based on flash-floods and river overflow experiences recently. Management measures and awareness will be developed. Educational awareness, outreaches, workshops will also be conducted to educate the communities on the importance of conservation and watershed management.
