Recultivation of lands affected by illegal extraction of natural resources on significant biodiversity areas
Due to illegal mining of amber in Polissya region of Ukraine serious environment damage was made to the area, including deep damage of soil surface, forest ecosystem and significant biodiversity losses. The project rehabilitates the affected lands and implements measures to prevent further illegal mining. It is achieved through the implementation of the following activities: - recultivate lands damaged by amber mining; - conduct academic and promotional campaign to raise public awareness on the environment of Polissya region and involve the community into renovation works; - promote changes to legislation in terms of sustainable development. Therefore, the project focuses on practical activities, information dissemination combined with advocacy practices to promote new laws and regulations.
