The achieved results of the project:
1. Within the framework of the project, nine collection points from the population of energy-efficient mercury containing lighting products were organized in order to further test the mechanism of their utilization and processing.
2. 10 containers-boxes for collecting used lamps containing mercury were installed, two each in five cities of Ukraine: Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Lutsk.
3. A logistics scheme for the collection and disposal of lamps was launched. During the project implementation 80 000 mercury containing lighting products were collected and disposed of. This reduces the ingress of 400 000 mg of mercury into the soil and groundwater.
4. Methodical recommendations in the amount of 1000 copies were developed, published and distributed among representatives of local authorities during public events, namely representatives of city departments of housing and communal services, departments of ecology and environmental protection. 10 copies were given to the libraries of Ivano-Frankivsk, Poltava, Zhytomyr, Sumy, Lutsk.
5. Five seminars and a final presentation were held for local government representatives.
6. Information about the project was disseminated in the local media in order to raise the level of environmental awareness of community members, raise awareness on climate change.
7. About 38,000 people (who brought lamps containing mercury for recycling) directly took part in the project.
