Upon receipt of first tranch, two trainings were held separately based on sustainable integrated fixed farming technology. These aimed to educate interested rice farmers on soil fertility, rice seed sowing, organic fertilizer production and other areas intended to ensure farmers are well trained to farm and maintain organic rice farming using methods that will ensure quality harvest.
These trainings were held in partnership with the local municipality division of agriculture: Manus Department of Agriculture and Livestock. Trainings held in two locations, involved 60 males and 41 female farmers, totaling a total of 101 farmers trained so far. The target is 200 already registered farmers. But it is expected that, training is generating interest and therefore the total number may in fact increase to 400 farmers being trained once all 12 LLGs across the Province are covered.
-Awareness in different forms was carried out through the 7 local level government areas.
-Food security is a growing problem within the province and island communities with access to towns becoming very expensive, this rice project will hopefully gauge more interest among locals to secure their families and reduce pressures on income with supply of rations from the shops and towns.
