The project enhanced the capacities of communities and civil society organizations through the development of the on-line course "Sustainable development for communities" (http://ecoacademy.org.ua/book/stalyy-rozvytok-gromad). The course is available for free on the website of the National Environmental Academy under Ministry of Ecology of Ukraine and allows the participants to raise their awareness on sustainable development issues, and course certificates are issued to those that complete the course. In addition, the grant was also used to organize a second Knowledge Fair to enable SGP grantees and other CSO stakeholders to network, share and showcase best practices, as well as to promote sustainability and mobilize additional resources for community-based initiatives. The fair included an exhibition to showcase over 20 SGP supported projects to share best practices and the lessons and results was visited by the public, including Ms. Chihan Sultanoglu, UN Assistant Secretary-General, UNDP Assistant Administrator and Regional Director for Europe and the CIS. Furthermore, the project supported a South-South exchange with Turkey where Ukrainian CSOs exchanged experience in biodiversity, land degradation and management, rural tourism and gender issues; as well as an awareness raising component through the Ukrainian environmental newspaper "Development and Environment". These efforts enhance the capacities of 2,500 community members. The networks of CSOs, CBOs were supported by the GEF SGP (www.zelena.org.ua, http://www.ecoosvita.org.ua).
