Alternatives to use of synthetic pesticides in vegetable production among women farmers in the Central River Region
Alternatives to use of synthetic pesticides in vegetable production among women farmers in the Central River Region
The project aims to promote the adoption of alternatives to-chemical agriculture, and in that regard impart organic farming as the best approach and discourage the use of pesticides in agriculture. The approach the project seeks to adopt is the promotion of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) whereby use of pesticides in crop protection becomes the last resort with a view of emphasizing natural control methods that do not harm the farmer, the consumer or the environment. The project specifically targets women vegetable farmers who are the biggest users of agro-chemicals in the country.
One of the main activities of the project consists of sensitizing and training its target population on the principles and methods of organic farming. The project will work with women farmer federations operating in the Central River Region of The Gambia.
