"Chornobyl. Territory of change": empowering local communities
The main goal of the project is to establish the Information Center "Chornobyl. Territory of change" to raise public awareness on the following issues: - Results of regular environment monitoring on radiation in the Exclusion Zone and beyond it; - Kyiv and Zhytomyr Polissya ecosystem conditions; - Prospects and possible ways for sustainable development in the Exclusion Zone and local communities around this area, including energy efficient technologies demonstration and renewable energy sources to promote them among population; - Measures to protect the population from possible impact of Exclusion Zone objects; - Operation of the Chornobyl Radiation and Environmental Biosphere Reserve; - The results of scientific research carried out in the Exclusion Zone. To achieve its goal, the project work plan includes development of technical design project on re-construction the Center building; construction works and insulation of the building; purchase and installation of solar power plant on the roof of the building to ensure independent power supply, engineering networks, electrical and plumbing equipment, energy-saving LED lighting; as well arrangement of the Center with furniture. To ensure effective performance of the Center, the project is responsible for development and dissemination of information materials; creation of the library that encounter informational, educational and scientific literature; development of the web page of the Center; holding an information campaign in the media on a regular basis; carrying out the presentations of the Center to mass media and other stakeholders; development and implementation of consulting and training mechanisms for the Center visitors.
