The Integrated and Sustainable Agro ecological Production (PAIS) project is based on the principle of integrated agroecology approach, with emphasis on the importance of implantation of new models which favors preservation of the environment, reduction of rural families? production costs, while promoting and offering agricultural products of high nutritional value and increasing of rural families? income.
Its main objective of the project is to preserve the environment through an integrated agricultural system aiming to increase rural families? resiliency. In specific terms new varieties and water stress resistant fruit trees will be introduced, and alternative income activities promoted, such as introduction of improved goat breed. Besides contributing to the community livelihood options strengthening, the project will promote and implement soil preservation and stabilization activities, namely construction of anti-erosion terraces on steep areas of the Serra Malgueta Natural Park.
The initiative will benefit 78 households, approximately 470 community members (260 women and 210 men). The proposed investment is approximately $45.000, with the community and the Serra Malagueta Natural Park contributing roughly about 33% of the total amount. SGP is expected to invest around $ 30.000 USD
