Aproveitamento dos Recursos Naturais (solo e água) sua valorização e integração no sector do agronegócio como fator de desenvolvimento local de Aguadinha
This project aims to address soil and water conservation issues in Aguadinha local community. The community is located in São Miguel Municipality, on Santiago Island. Water access for agriculture and its sustainable use have been one of the main environmental and social issues faced by the community; and voiced on community meetings. In addition to water scarcity, Aguadinha faces land erosion problems (loss of arable land), due to lack of vegetation cover due to drought. Nonetheless, it is worth mention that continued torrential rains and unprepared farmers have also contributed to loss of arable land. Noticeably, these problems affect community livelihood systems and overall well-being.
To minimize this situation, grantee proposes implementation of coordinated actions and interventions on soil and water conservation (biological and mechanical). The community will construct a water tank of 50 m3 capacity which will be used for irrigation purposes. Other integrated actions will be providing resources and capacity to local farmers to plant fruit trees and pea beans on rehabilitated areas. The project is expected to benefit 60 families, approximately 300 people (210 women and 90 men)
