Projeto MultiAdpt na comunidade de Covoada - São Lourenço dos Órgãos
The project is a response to increase vulnerability to flash floods, including other related climate events, and land degradation which negatively impacts the livelihoods of local farmers on the Covada local community, located in the municipality of S. Lourenço dos Órgãos, Santiago Island. Although some activities to promote soil conservation and community livelihood improvement have been successfully implemented in the past, there is still a need to increase beneficiaries base on such actions and attack other vulnerable areas in the community, therefore increasing resiliency.
To address this situation, the Association proposes coordinated intervention on soil and water conservation, especially on slopping areas. Activities to promote livelihood strengthening and resiliency will be effectively implemented. It is expected that the initiative will benefit 70 families in Covada. The project will collaborate with the Municipality of S. Lourenço dos Órgãos, Delegation of the Ministry of Environment and Serra do Pico de Antónia Natural Park.
MultiAdapat is an integrated and innovative project for flood regulation, microclimatic mitigation and food security promotion. Its main focus is the creation of vegetable garden network on the community of Covada and promoting community improved goat breeds. In addition to contributing to community resilience strengthening, the project will include activities to prevent soil erosion and flooding.
