The Rural World of Santo Antão Island, Cabo Verde is full of problems which constitute great challenges to overcome. Among the main problems diagnosed by the CBO are: loss of soils and unsustainable water use practices, degraded and untreated agricultural land, weak planning and organizational capacities for agricultural production, low agro productivity, limited knowledge of sustainable farming or agro ecologic farming practices, access to local and regional markets, lack of equal opportunities for women, food insecurity, and low environmental conservation efforts.
The PAVI project proposes an innovative solution to tackle some of the problems identified, namely for gender balance, introduction of activities that will conserve the environment while creating opportunities for young farmers and women.
Thus, the project aims to value and exploit sustainable natural resources of Paul's community latent wealth. It will provide proper capacities to beneficiaries? on agro ecologic production, specifically by mobilizing, organizing and training on production factors on specific vegetable and fruit products, and invest on small poultry production.
The project will be implemented by the local CBO, which will nominate a coordination unit. The Delegation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and the Cova, Paúl e Torre Natural Park Office will be also involved in key selected activities.
