Wetlands protection, rehabilitation and sustainable management of rangeland resources of Mofolaneng
Mofolaneng rangelands like most rangelands in the mokhotlong district are invaded by alien invasive shrubs particularly Chrysochoma sp. With the increased severity of drought the country has been experiencing, overgrazing, and trampling of wetlands and conflicts over limited resources have become serious challenges.
The main objective of the project is to safeguard rangelands and wetland resources within the Khubelu catchment through adoption of integrated catchment management approaches for natural resources management. Through a planning grant, a full proposal will be elaborated.
Specifically, will work towards:
i. Carrying out a baseline study on the status and threats to the rangeland and wetland resources of Mofolaneng and identification of key stakeholders
ii. Creating more awareness about wetlands protection among local communities and key stakeholders, particularly local herd boys
iii. Training and capacity development for members of the Society
iv. Developing an integrated approach for range resources management and protection of wetlands
v. Developing a project proposal on Wetlands protection, rehabilitation and sustainable management of range resources of Mofolaneng
