Policy Impact
The project will have links and partnerships with the Jharkhand state, JREDA and UNDP. It will access direct links with the programs of the UNDP, state and national government as well. Replicability of the project is high as people in the area are recognizing the benefits of biogas, animal husbandry as poultry activities as a more integrated approach.
Gender Focus
The project will promote the participation of both men and women from the target village and provide them training to enhance their knowledge and skills. Community members including the women SHGs will actively participate in the all the phases of the project initiating from project planning and designing till its monitoring and evaluation. Links with Banks will be established for the communities to access credit to the SHGs and Individuals by NGO for purchase of livestock. Women SHGs will also be involved in planning, implementing and managing the project activities. Local people will be involved in animal husbandy trainings, travis installation in 5 villages and animal health camps for 2 years in 10 villages. 2 Women SHGs (12-15 members each) will be formed in villages/ user groups.
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The project's primary objective is to improve the water quality and rejuvenation of the Ganga River. Ensure sustained use and maintenance of the toilets constructed. The project will help in improving the lives of women and children by providing them clean cooking technologies and reducing the health hazards like TB caused due to indoor pollition arising from traditional cooking practices. 5/10 fodder development plots will be developed in each village for both nitrogenous and crop based varieties. The drudgery of the women will be reduced. The NGO aims at promoting the economic status and improving the livelihood of the villagers. The end products manufactured will bring in maximum value added services to the enterprise. The activities of the project will lead to income generation for the community/ beneficiaries and thus the profit can be used for carrying out the project in a proper manner.
Capacity - Building Component
Training will be conducted at village level for introducing poultry program as a business enterprise. 10 person?s will be trained and exposure visits will be organized to related GEF/SGP projects in Bhagirathi Foundation and CTRD for the local NGO masons and staff. Trainings, Exposure visits and workshops will be organized for the villagers to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Project sustainability
Women Self Help Groups(SHGs) continue the dissemination and maintenance of bio gas plants introduced. Also the livelihood activities will be further strengthened and promoted through converging with various government departments.
Project Results
* 583 total village meetings done for toilet construction, toilet beneficiary selection, raising awareness on ganga cleaning, toilet use, hand wash, composting, biogas, enterprising activities, best practices of agriculture, financial inclusion, individual account opening and SHG account opening. 21 participatory rural exercises done in 21 villages for making village level action plans.
* 85 Sakhi Mandals formed comprising 943 women members. 73 SHGs were given kits for keeping records of books, cash etc.
* 64 bio gas units installed (4 ferro cement and 60 syntex model) in villages of Udhwa and Rajmahal Block of Sahibganj District. 320 KG of fuel wood is being saved on daily basis.
* Napier Grass have been distributed as fodder in 13 villages. With 122 beneficiaries of 13 villages model plots is to be developed.
* 1187 Beneficiaries participated in 10 Animal Health Camp. 824 cow and 527 Goats were treated.
Various Animal Health Problems observed.
* 500 SHG members were distributed Chicks to promote livelihood and business enterprises. Each Members were given 12 Chicks.
* 05 Travis installed in the area with the contribution & support of community in Jalbalu, Jeetnagar, Sridhar Diyara and middle Piyarpur and North Plasgachi. Travis are being used by villagers for vaccination and artificial insemination of Cattles.
