Community based conservation effort on local fruit varieties in North Bengkulu
Project goal:
To conserve biodiversity and establish a local gene-plasm pool in Gunung Bungkuk protected forest by re-planting local varieties of fruit trees (in this case: durian trees) .
Project objective :
1. To raise community awareness on nature conservation concept
2. To execute conservation effort done with community participation
3. To build community capacity on farming techniques as well as better land management
4. To build a demoplot of planting techniques which also regards to land and water conservation
Activities to be carried out under the project :
1. Preparation.
a) Survey on village potentiality (through PRA) and it?s weaknesses
b) CBO strengthening activity - through informal meeting and mentoring
c) working planning preparation
2. Local training and education in the field.
a) Farming techniques (nursery, fertilization, pest-control, and harvesting)
b) Simple techniques in plant reproduction
3. Outreach Approach.
a) Regular meetings within the community, with other communities, and with relevant government officials.
b) Ad-hoc meetings with other communities to attract their interest in replicating the project.
4. Technical Assistance.
a) Buy seeds / tree saplings to be given to members of CBO to enhance their interest in
taking part of conservation effort
b) Farming techniques including better land management
c) With community participation (building demoplot)
5. Evaluation and Reporting.

2. CBOs in Karang Tinggi, Talang Empat and Susup Talang Empat North Bengkulu.
