“Conservation and effective use of pasturelands in Lyakhsh and Sangvor districts”
The Republic of Tajikistan is agrarian country. Animal husbandry is integral part of agriculture development of the country. Special geographic location and unique agro-climate zones (over 3.8mln hectare of various pasturelands) create opportunity for development of the sector. Following collapse of Soviet regime, at the bases of former 'Kolkhoz' and 'Sovkhoz' (large collective farms) around 128 thousand Dekhkan-Farms constituted instead. In the present time, 90-95% of livestock are belonged to private sector and little number in collective farms. Livestock breeding at the local levels turned to be very expensive business due to high prices on services and materials. Availability of the natural pasturelands and fodder production is very important in Tajikistan and essential resource for sustainable livestock breeding. However, transition to market-economy have its challenges and raised number of issues require immediate solutions. These and other problems of livestock breeding sector contributed to the ineffective and unsustainable use of the available pastureland resources and haymaking, thereby increasing land degradation and erosion as well as occurrence of natural disasters.
