Often, the Kunar river burst its banks after its water level increase due to heavy rains across and this sweeps away the villages and agricultural lands coming across the river. In Patan village of Noorgal district-Kunar, the community was suffering from the risk of floods as the river was getting closed to their village and agricultural lands with the passage of time.

The embankment of the river was one of their pressing needs to save the lands and also reduce the risk of floods. There was also pressure on the nearby forest resources.

With the technical support of Provincial Agriculture Director, the project was implemented by Hewad Palana organization which is a youth organization consist of 650 male 300 female member. Under this project, total of 7,000 plants planted in the area on over 05 hectares of land. A reservoir constructed, and it was equipped with solar water pump to irrigate the saplings regularly. UN-WFP also supported the project by generating 500 labor days for the community people. The trees have been grown and the soil has been retained with the trees and other natural vegetation.

One of the excellent results of the project was re-emergence of Liqourice. About 05 hectares which was planted and protected by community is now full of Liqourice, and this would bring a lot of economic benefits to the community as it is one of useful medicinal plants.
