Smart Technology for Improved Agriculture and Livestock Yield
Smart Technology for Improved Agriculture and Livestock Yield
Namak and Namngam villages are located in the buffer zone of the Phoukhaokhouai National Park in Thoulakhom District, Vientiane Province. People here 100% are farmers for rice, vegetable and livestock productions. Their food and income is extremely depended on the agriculture, however the agricultural condition is often unfavorable and not sufficient to afford the need. Farmers are struggling to meet self-sufficiency, especially for the big household. Most of farming method use is a traditional way, lack of knowledge about new technology or skill to improve their agricultural product and animal husbandry. Soil fertility is significantly reduced because of chemical fertilizer use for several years that is why they go for food hunting and collect non-timber forest products (NTFPs) without consideration of sustainable use or natural resources conservation. Therefore, the project aims to introduce and provide the new initiatives in these villages on how to use EM (Effective Microorganisms) for bio-fertilizer, bio-feed and bio-pesticide, which are friendly to the recipient environments. This project will assist villager to reduce using chemical materials for agricultural production, which are harmful to soil condition as well as the health of local communities.
